Get to know Becca!

Here are 10 questions we asked Becca so you can get to know her better.

What made you want to become a sports therapist/orthotist?

I’m a people person, I really wanted to help improve others quality of life. I grew up with a mum who suffered from arthritis and a dad with fibromyalgia, I really wanted to be able to help them and others like them.

What’s the biggest misconception about orthotics?

That I just deal with feet, it’s a large part of the job but orthotics is everything from your head to your toes I treat it all!

Who was your biggest influence?

This going to sound cliché but my mum. She was so strong and driven, but also so humble and caring. She worked in the care industry and spent many late nights ensuring her patients were getting the best care possible. She was a real inspiration.

What’s your favourite exercise in the gym?

It’s got to be Romanian dead lift for me – I love them! They really target those hamstrings and glutes.

How has sports therapy influenced your own life?

It has made me realise the importance of good health and regular movement, if you slow down in life your body really starts to suffer for it. Health is something we must actively work on each day.

What is a myth you’d like to debunk?

That you need to walk 10,000 steps a day! This has been shown so many times to be false, research tells us that just 4000 steps a day benefits our health. Research tells us that the golden number is around 7500 for optimum health benefits.

Describe your perfect holiday destination?

Oh, this is easy I get bored so fast, I like to be as active as possible when away (no sitting around sunbathing for me). I love visiting places where there is mountains and lakes, you can go hiking, swimming, boating and cycling all in one absolute bliss!

What is one exercise you believe everyone should do more of?

I am biased as I spent my all my teen years in a pool, but it’s got to be swimming. Its such a good form of exercise, its non-weight bearing so there is limited stress on the joints, it can be a great from of cardio and resistance exercise. It’s a great way to stay fit and healthy.

What’s one food you couldn’t live without?

White chocolate – its good for my soul! I don’t eat it all the time, but it gets me a good dopamine release.

You’re best piece of advice?

Time is precious. Use it wisely it is the most valuable thing you have, use it to make the most of your life.
